We are coming into the time of year when the days are cooler, and the grass is greener. This is also a time to adjust your sprinklers so that they are not running as much. We will take a look at the benefits to lessening the run time for your sprinklers in the fall:
- Lowers the amount of water used, thus paying for less water and saving money. Rain is more common, and grass does not struggle as much in the fall to retain moisture.
- Helps to keep the grass healthier. Some turf diseases need a lot of moisture to thrive, by adding more moisture, the chance of a disease increases, especially during the cooler months of the year.
- Excessive grass growth is not good for your lawn. It is best for the grass plant when only one third of the leaf blade is cut off each time it is cut. But by over watering and creating extremely long grass, this cannot be achieved and unnecessary stress results.
Adjusting sprinklers run time in the fall is good for your lawn, and it is good for your pocketbook. To me, that seems like a win-win, and what could be better than that?
