Composting, it is good for the environment by eliminating waste. Composting is just recycling for your lawn and landscape. You won’t be able to recycle your plastic bottles and glass jars, but you can recycle your grass and plant clippings, leaves, food scraps, and other organic matter.
Composting is an excellent way to return nutrients back to the soil. And most of the time, the material used to create compost would just otherwise be headed to the landfill or yard waste dumpster. So it is a win-win. Less to the landfill and more nutrients for your plants.
Patience is needed. Composting doesn’t happen over night. It can take weeks to months for the organic matter to break down, and stirring and mixing the organic matter until it becomes usable material. Because of this, it is best have a pile that is out of sight, or to use a compost tumbler. The tumbler is nice because the compost is in a nice compartment that can be easily turned over to mix the pile. However, if you have a large amount of compost, a pile may be better because of the larger size. More work is needed to turn a compost pile over, using a shovel and some elbow grease will be needed.
To use the compost, simply mix the usable compost into the soil where you are going to plant flowers or plants. It is especially important if there is low amounts of organic matter already where you would like to plant.
The best part of making your own compost is you are recycling waste material and turning it into something that can be used around your landscape. It is also good for your plants by providing nutrients for helping them grow. That makes it a win-win.
